Update: Proposed Rogers Cell Phone Tower Install

IMPORTANT UPDATE – PROPOSED CELL TOWER INSTALLATION – 9947 FAIRMONT DR

The deadline to provide feedback on the proposed Cell Tower Installation at 9947 Fairmont Drive is close of business on Sunday, February 6, 2022.  We encourage all residents in the community to provide feedback directly to the following contacts:

  1. Anthony Novello, Evolve Surface Strategies – comments@evolvesurface.com
  2. Complete the online feedback form in addition to any letters or emails sent –  https://forms.gle/rDSmqVmbujdYG1eA9
  3. City of Calgary Planning and Development Lalach@calgary.ca
  4. Ward 11 Councillor, Kourtney Penner – ward11@calgary.ca
  5. Ward 11 Executive Assistant, Holly Shaw – EAWARRD11@calgary.ca
  6. Willow Ridge Civic Affairs – civicaffairs@mywillowridge.ca

We are also providing a formal response from the Willow Ridge Community Association on behalf of the community.  We have spoken to many people with reference to the concerns about the proposed location of this cell tower.  We will share this communication as well.  We understand this has been a very stressful process for members of our community and while this is federally regulated, by participating in the process and providing feedback, collectively, we are doing what we can to ensure concerns are addressed.

We requested feedback on the process that will be followed by Evolve/Rogers.  Below is the information that was provided:

Process:

Once the comments and/or questions are received via email/comment sheet/phone call, we prepare and send the respondent a formal response letter attempting to address them. The respondent then has 21-days to issue a response to that letter. All received comments/questions, along with the responses we provide them, are sent to the City and Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (ISED) when the applications are eventually made so they can both review them.

The open house is a similar process, we will provide details on the proposed location, talk a little bit about why the site is needed, and how it ended up being proposed at that location. We try to address all the questions we can during the open house, but this is not always possible. Due to this, we ask that anyone with concerns fill in the online comment sheet so we can try to get an answer for them, then we address those in a formal response letter within the following days. This also ensures their concerns are being reviewed by the city and ISED as mentioned above.

As far as a resolution process, it all depends on the concerns provided. Some concerns are something that can be mitigated, and some are not. All things considered, should the City feel that the concerns are something that can be easily mitigated they can make certain items a condition of concurrence (support). As ISED is the approving authority regarding telecommunications in Canada, should ISED feel that a valid concern was presented and wasn’t mitigated, they can also make the Carrier mitigate prior to allowing the facility to be constructed/put into service.

On behalf of the board at Willow Ridge Community Association, we wish to thank all the residents that have reached out to us and for all the efforts to raise awareness and increase engagement with reference to this important proposal.

Kind regards,

Sheri Rouse, Civic Affairs

Willow Ridge Community Association
