Tree Canopy Replacement Program

Rebuilding our urban forest for future generations.

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now."

– Chinese Proverb

The Problem

Our mature tree canopy is in crisis. Over 50% of our trees are 50+ years old and reaching end-of-life. There are 42 trees scheduled for removal in 2025 due to disease and age.

The Solution

Working with Calgary Urban Forestry, we’re strategically replanting with large caliper trees designed to last 100+ years. Your support helps us plant additional trees beyond the City’s budget.

How You can Help

Water Young Trees

New trees need deep weekly watering, especially during Calgary's dry periods. Look for orange tags marking new plantings.

Protect Tree Roots

Avoid compacting soil around trees. Don't drive or park on root zones, and be careful with landscaping equipment.

Report Tree Issues

Notice a diseased or damaged tree? Contact 311 or email trees@mywillowridge.ca for trees within Willow Park & Maple Ridge.

Plant Native Species

Consider native species for your yard. Contact us for recommendations on trees that thrive in our climate.

Donate Today

Help fund additional trees beyond what the City provides. Every $1,000 plants and maintains one large tree.
